Getting Started
- Compatible devices: Currently, True VO2 Max works with any Apple Watch.
Measuring Your VO2 Max
- What activities can I use? Running, walking, cycling, rowing, are just a few of the exercises that are ideal for VO2 Max testing. Choose an activity you can sustain at medium to high intensity for at least 5 minutes.
Understanding Your Results
- What do the numbers mean? VO2 Max is measured in ml/kg/min and represents the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during exercise. Higher numbers indicate better cardiovascular fitness.
- Tracking progress: Use the Quick Glance page to view your VO2 Max trends over time and see how your training is improving your fitness.
Quick Answers (FAQ)
1) My VO₂ numbers look lower/higher than expected. Why?
True VO2 Max shows Raw vs Corrected VO₂. Raw is your Apple Watch estimate. Corrected adjusts for environment (heat, humidity, altitude) using research-based penalties so you see your true underlying trend despite tough conditions.
2) A workout isn’t showing or didn’t sync.
- Open the app → scroll down on the list to the refresh button.
- Check Health permissions: iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → True VO2 Max and enable Workouts, VO₂ max/Cardio Fitness, Heart Rate, Route, etc.
- Ensure the workout is saved in Apple’s Fitness app.
- If still missing, reboot iPhone & Apple Watch, then reopen the app.
3) Weather/altitude looks wrong.
- Make sure Location Services are on (iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services).
